By Jhoni | August 15, 2020 | My Loc products | Beauty Hey loc ladies and gents! I wanted to do a quick blog updating you all about my latest loc-care obsessions.
As most of you know (or now know), I am a color treated loc lady. This means that loc care and maintenance is extremely important to me. This includes everything from the shampooing, to the daily loc moisturizing. Most importantly, for someone who is color-treated, CONDITIONER. This new company called "Peculiar Roots" makes a great product line, specifically catered toward people with locs. I honestly think all loc people should try these. These products truly make my locs feel AMAZING...and smell good. On another note, they are a black-owned company with amazing customer service and super cute packaging. (I might be the only person who cares about packaging, ha) I've attached my youtube video reviewing these products. After you watch this video, shoot me an email to [email protected] and let me know what y'all think! www.peculiarroots.com Oh yeah...of course I have a promo code for when you're ready to purchase: Jhoni10

BY JHONI | AUGUST 11, 2020 | Q&A WITH JHONI | LIFESTYLE I promise I'm not Hollywood. I get questions on my instagram frequently, but the way my life is set up, I can't always answer them immediately. I'm going to fix that problem STAT. I'm starting a monthly Q&A with Jhoni. This is where I'm going to answer the questions you have with details and even pictures! Ok, let's get into it... How old are you?
I get this question a'lot....Please don't think I'm lying, but I'm 34...I promise. I was born in 1985. What is your ethnicity? I'm just a Black American. As far as I know, I'm not West Indian. I often get asked if I'm Trini....I'm not. With that said...I do enjoy West Indian music and food. I LOVE the food. How long have you been loc'd? I've been loc'd almost 5 years. It will be 5 years at the end of October. I'm super excited. Not sure how I'm going to celebrate! What did your hair look like when you loc'd it? Ok. I was the typical woman. I changed my hair up constantly!! I had a short brown pixie, a blonde pixie...I rocked a natural, I wore weave..both brown and blonde. I can honestly say the only style I didn't wear was braids or senegalese twists twists. I might be the only black woman in the world who never had box braids. (Nobody asked that, it's just a free tidbit lol) By Jhoni | August 5, 2020 | The Pros and Cons of not retwisting | Beauty Loc'd people, let's chat for a second. I want to have a super honest, uncandid chat. I feel like every loc'd person has been through this phase.... I remember wanting to loc my hair and telling myself that I wouldn't go without a retwist. My roots were always going to be slick and retwisted, PERIOD. Then....I loc'd my hair...and all of a sudden, the fuzzy root look grew on me. I would see women who wouldn't retwist, and I had to admit, I didn't hate it. Then I read into why women (and men) choose at some point in their loc journey to stop retwisting.... We all like to think of locs as a "low maintenance" style- one that requires almost no effort. I don't think I've ever been more wrong about anything in my life. First of all, the wash process is up there with calculus in terms of difficulty. Washing out products takes a year and drying takes about 4 and a half years (please note my sarcasm lol). The moisturizing is a full time job. When I say that, I mean you have to take the time to find a moisture routine that your hair thanks you for, then you have to actually do the routine at least 3 times a week...if you're color treated like me, then do it everyday. Every. Day. Then, there's retwisting. After washing your hair for 5.5 years, as stated above, you 'have to' retwist...or do you? Dont get me wrong, unless you are free-forming, you absolutely must retwist occasionally, or you'll be a semi-freeformer, by default. However, the question is "What is all the hype around not retwisting?". If you're like me, you've been seeing ladies and gentlemen all over social media going extended periods of time without retwisting...I have become one of those people. I have not had a retwist since the beginning of June, 2020. Let me tell you why I jumped on the bandwagon:
#1 Locs, by nature of their design, get heavier and heavier as time goes on. I mean, think about it: all of the hair that your head sheds daily, ALL of it, stays in the loc. Naturally, this causes tension on the roots. #2 Another reason, that I deemed it necessary to try not retwisting is due to loc styling. Now, Im not known for intricate, tight loc styles, but I do a bun now and then (lol) and that has its own associated tension. #3 Lastly, retwisting encourages a tighter, thinner loc. Not thin, but thinner..slimmer is a better word. It encourages a slimmer loc. Now, though thick locs aren't immune to breaking, there is some truth to the fact that thinner locs break easier. In my mind, I feel like not retwisting as often, somewhat thickens up my locs, just a tad. BY JHONI | AUGUST 3, 2020 | CUTE DRESS WITH POCKETS | FASHION
By Jhoni | July 30, 2020 | The Book Report- August 2020 There are a few things in life that I think are very important. One, I think it is important to have a relationship with Jesus and 2, I think it is important to read. Every successful person that I have seen (and can think of) have this particular thing in common. The truth of the matter is that reading is so amazing because literally ANYTHING you want to know can be found in a book. Now for entrepreneurs, reading is especially important. When I say entrepreneurs, I am referring to those actively doing it and those who want to do it one day. The truth is there is so much to know about running your own business and being in charge of yourself. My goal, one day is to be able to earn money, while living life on my terms. For me, this means taking this influencer game to a max capacity- the proverbial "next level" . The way to get there is to study those who have already done it. So, welcome to my new blog series "The Book Report". My goal is to read one book a month. I'm going to read a book that gives me information that I can use for self improvement and for professional insight. I feel like if I have to report back to my Angels monthly, then it will help me stay accountable...because let's be honest..how many of us have started reading a book and then 6 months later, we're still in chapter 2 and can't even find the book. The book I am reading for the month of August is "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. Being able to control your thoughts and how you see EVERY situation is literally the key to having true joy. If you're someone who focuses on the negative more than the positive- you probably need to read this too :)
So...what book are y'all reading? By Jhoni | July 30, 2020 | The Book Report- August 2020 here are a few things in life that I think are very important. By Jhoni | July 16, 2020 | 3 Loc Tips| Beauty Oh hey, welcome back! For those of you who are new to Jhoni Locran on instagram, I usually get a ton of questions, specifically from starter loc'ers. I always try to make sure that I answer as many of y'alls questions as possible. The truth is, there is a lot to know before you start your locs and unless you know exactly what questions to ask, you wont know until its "too late"..if that makes sense...
You see, as much as I knew about locs before I started mine, there was so much more that I didn't. Well...actually, I didn't know anything about them. Literally the only thing I knew was that they looked pretty. I knew that I wanted locs down my back. I knew I wanted them smallish-medium-large. I knew that I probably wanted to color them...I knew that I probably wanted to wear fancy loc jewelry. What I didn't know, was WHEN I would be able to do all of these things. I would venture to bet that if you are a starter loc'er right now, reading this, that you have no idea when you would be able to do all of these things either. And thats ok. You're not supposed to know..because nobody tells you these things before you start. I feel like I am somewhat of a guinea pig...I just try stuff...then I tell my followers "yeah, don't do that". Sad, but true. So in this blog, I'm going to address 3 main questions that I've been getting a lot lately: 1) When can I color my locs and when can I wear loc jewelry (thats 2 questions but whatever, y'all get 2 for 1) 2) How should I moisturize my locs? 3) What temperature water should I use when washing my hair? I hope y'all enjoy, and I hope this information is super valuable to you! By Jhoni | July 11, 2020 | Thrift Shopping! | Fashion Ok..first of all...who loves thrift shopping? I feel like there are 2 types of people in this world: those of us who LOVE thrifting and those of us who love thrifting but don't want to admit it. Guess which one your girl is? There seems to be a weird stigma about thrift shopping. Like some people think that only poor people thrift shop. I even think some people think that thrift shops are dirty and have a weird smell (some do...but not all of them lol).
Thrifting (as I call it) is not just for poor people. Honestly, thrifting is shopping but better. Imagine getting a super cute dress that fits you perfectly that you already have the perfect pair of shoes to go with it at home (I like long sentences). NOW...imagine finding a super cute dress that fits you perfectly that you already have the perfect pair of shoes to go with it at home...for $4. You see how the first scenario made you smile, but the second scenario made you laugh and nod your head with excitement. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the power of thrifting. Now let's get into my weekend. BY JHONI | JUNE 21, 2020 | MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE| BEAUTY
