The Book Report- August 2020

By Jhoni | July 30, 2020 | The Book Report- August 2020
There are a few things in life that I think are very important. One, I think it is important to have a relationship with Jesus and 2, I think it is important to read. Every successful person that I have seen (and can think of) have this particular thing in common. The truth of the matter is that reading is so amazing because literally ANYTHING you want to know can be found in a book.
Now for entrepreneurs, reading is especially important. When I say entrepreneurs, I am referring to those actively doing it and those who want to do it one day. The truth is there is so much to know about running your own business and being in charge of yourself. My goal, one day is to be able to earn money, while living life on my terms. For me, this means taking this influencer game to a max capacity- the proverbial "next level" . The way to get there is to study those who have already done it.
So, welcome to my new blog series "The Book Report". My goal is to read one book a month. I'm going to read a book that gives me information that I can use for self improvement and for professional insight. I feel like if I have to report back to my Angels monthly, then it will help me stay accountable...because let's be honest..how many of us have started reading a book and then 6 months later, we're still in chapter 2 and can't even find the book.

The book I am reading for the month of August is "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. Being able to control your thoughts and how you see EVERY situation is literally the key to having true joy. If you're someone who focuses on the negative more than the positive- you probably need to read this too :)

So...what book are y'all reading?

What every new Influencer needs to buy

BY JHONI | JULY 21, 2020 | WHAT EVERY NEW INFLUENCER NEEDS TO BUY | LIFESTYLE
Lights. Camera. Action yall!! Please, if you don't remember anything else I say in any video ever again, remember this. Every brand new influencer needs an O ring light. A lot of times, people (myself included) decide to get in to the influencer game and have no idea where to start. I'll even venture to say that starting out, most people don't have the budget either. What ends up happening is that we let ourselves get discouraged from being an influencer because we don't have a fancy camera or a $400 lighting system like some of our favorite youtubers. I promise you all, it does not take much to get started. Perfection is the enemy of progress.  So whatever excuse you are using to procrastinate starting...STOP IT!

When I first got started uploading youtube content, I had no lights and no camera..no action, really. I was using my iphone. Lets be clear..I still use my iphone at times and that's because these newer iphones shoot in 4k! 4K!!!! Thats professional camera quality. Don't get me wrong, in order to elevate your content, you are going to want to upgrade to a nice camera at some point, but it is DEFINITELY NOT A DEAL BREAKER. The next thing I didn't have was lighting. I was shooting either in the height of daylight, or I was shooting at my makeup vanity....and then my world was changed. I watched a video by a makeup artist and she was unboxing a ring light she just got. This thing was huge! When she turned it on, I promise you my room lit up too. Then she proceeded to tell us how much it costed....and I said 'no maam'. This thing was like $300. Thats not bad if say you do makeup professionally and need excellent lighting to put a smokey eye on Cardi B. However, for Jhoni Locran...I just need a lil' something. So I decided to try out some smaller/cheaper ring lights from amazon.com...and let me tell you...WORTH EVERY PENNY. And I only spent about $40, so thats only 4000 pennies...

The ring light I bought is wonderful. It has a tripod function, holding your phone and you are able to change the light color to whichever one suits the shot best. I tried to snap pics of the 3 light colors for comparison. In this video I posted, I changed the light color, so you can see what each color looks like on my skin.

3 Loc Tips

By Jhoni | July 16, 2020 | 3 Loc Tips| Beauty

Oh hey, welcome back! For those of you who are new to Jhoni Locran on instagram, I usually get a ton of questions, specifically from starter loc'ers. I always try to make sure that I answer as many of y'alls questions as possible. The truth is, there is a lot to know before you start your locs and unless you know exactly what questions to ask, you wont know until its "too late"..if that makes sense...

You see, as much as I knew about locs before I started mine, there was so much more that I didn't. Well...actually, I didn't know anything about them. Literally the only thing I knew was that they looked pretty. I knew that I wanted locs down my back. I knew I wanted them smallish-medium-large. I knew that I probably wanted to color them...I knew that I probably wanted to wear fancy loc jewelry. What I didn't know, was WHEN I would be able to do all of these things. I would venture to bet that if you are a starter loc'er right now, reading this, that you have no idea when you would be able to do all of these things either. And thats ok. You're not supposed to know..because nobody tells you these things before you start.

I feel like I am somewhat of a guinea pig...I just try stuff...then I tell my followers "yeah, don't do that". Sad, but true. So in this blog, I'm going to address 3 main questions that I've been getting a lot lately:

 1) When can I color my locs and when can I wear loc jewelry (thats 2 questions but whatever, y'all get 2  for 1)

 2) How should I moisturize my locs?

 3) What temperature water should I use when washing my hair?

I hope y'all enjoy, and I hope this information is super valuable to you!

Thrift Shopping!

Ok..first of all...who loves thrift shopping? I feel like there are 2 types of people in this world: those of us who LOVE thrifting and those of us who love thrifting but don't want to admit it. Guess which one your girl is? There seems to be a weird stigma about thrift shopping. Like some people think that only poor people thrift shop. I even think some people think that thrift shops are dirty and have a weird smell (some do...but not all of them lol).

Thrifting (as I call it) is not just for poor people. Honestly, thrifting is shopping but better. Imagine getting a super cute dress that fits you perfectly that you already have the perfect pair of shoes to go with it at home (I like long sentences). NOW...imagine finding a super cute dress that fits you perfectly that you already have the perfect pair of shoes to go with it at home...for $4. You see how the first scenario made you smile, but the second scenario made you laugh and nod your head with excitement. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the power of thrifting. Now let's get into my weekend.
