By Jhoni | August 11, 2020 | Q&A with Jhoni
I promise I'm not Hollywood. I get questions on my instagram frequently, but the way my life is set up, I can't always answer them immediately. I'm going to fix that problem STAT. I'm starting a monthly Q&A with Jhoni. This is where I'm going to answer the questions you have with details and even pictures! Ok, let's get into it...
How old are you?I get this question a'lot....Please don't think I'm lying, but I'm 34...I promise. I was born in 1985.
What is your ethnicity?I'm just a Black American. As far as I know, I'm not West Indian. I often get asked if I'm Trini....I'm not. With that said...I do enjoy West Indian music and food. I LOVE the food.

How long have you been loc'd?
I've been loc'd almost 5 years. It will be 5 years at the end of October. I'm super excited. Not sure how I'm going to celebrate!
What did your hair look like when you loc'd it?
Ok. I was the typical woman. I changed my hair up constantly!! I had a short brown pixie, a blonde pixie...I rocked a natural, I wore weave..both brown and blonde. I can honestly say the only style I didn't wear was braids or senegalese twists twists. I might be the only black woman in the world who never had box braids. (Nobody asked that, it's just a free tidbit lol)
Do you do locs?
I get this question allllllll the time. No, I don't. I do my hair and I do my boyfriends hair..but I do not take clients. (Sorry)
Did you bleach your locs?
Yes. However, each time that I have gotten my locs colored, I've gone to a professional stylist. I don't recommend doing it yourself. And let me assure you, as long as your locs aren't over-processed during the coloring period, you should be able to maintain a healthy head of locs..JUST MAKE SURE YOU MOISTURIZE!
Are you doing this style with your locs on purpose? I think it’s really dope! Super different... to me
I think you're referring to my "no retwist" look. Yes I am doing it on purpose. I did a blog on it. Check it out here
How was your loc journey to this point?
See for yourself!
How do you work through self doubt and other self defeating thoughts?
Whew...this is a deep question. I think I'd be lying if I said that I didn't occasionally have these thoughts. I think its natural, especially when you are pursuing something new, to doubt yourself. First and foremost, I'm a Christian. I have such a faith in Christ and this grounds me and helps me to value myself and confidence that I can accomplish anything through Christ. Another way I combat this is through my amazing support system. I think it is so so so important to have people in your corner that support your dreams and your vision. I can honestly say that just because people "love" you, that doesn't mean they 'll be supportive. It's hard to get people to hop on board when you have "the next big idea" or when you want to step out on faith and do something that people in your circle don't typically do. When you are doubting yourself, thinking " can I really do this", you need people around you who tell you "yes you can". I'm so blessed that I have that. <3
How do you balance being an influencer with your home life?
This is a great question. I feel like when you are truly passionate about something, it doesn't feel like work. A typical day for me includes working my day job as a scientist. Since COVID, my hours are more flexible, but I typically come home around 5. I pet my dog, then get to working on the brand. I work on either my blog, my website or my youtube until about 9pm. In between that time, I eat dinner, and feed and walk my dog. I typically post to my IG before I go to be or before I go to work in the morning. Throughout the day, I'll like posts and comment on my fellow loc kings and queens pictures. On the weekends, I find that its easy for me to get caught up in front of my computer, but that's usually the time when Kayo Bracey and I shoot content for both of our brands and go thrifting! I love Q&A! Those are all the questions I have for August, but I'll be doing this again in September! So, if you have questions you want to have answered on my blog...email me! [email protected]
